NRC to hold public review of Global Nuclear Fuel fabrication plant

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will meet with Global Nuclear Fuel – America’s management on May 5, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to review the performance of the company’s nuclear fabrication plant.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will start at 6 p.m. in the Madeline Suite of Wagoner Hall at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, 601 South College St.

NRC staff determined the Global facility operated safely and securely after assessing the plant’s safety operations, radiological control and facility support in 2013 and 2014. NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree said the NRC regularly inspects Global and other nuclear fuel facilities.

“Our inspection reports are publicly available and we also hold regular meetings like this one near each facility to discuss our oversight and answer local residents’ questions,” McCree said.

A copy of the NRC letter to the company regarding the performance review is available on the NRC website, www.nrc.gov.
