The Davis-Besse Nuclear-Power Station in Oak Harbor, Ohio, has been honored with the Ottawa County Improvement Corp.’s 2014 Ottawa County Business of the Year award.
The award recognizes the plant’s strong economic impact on the region and its commitment to providing safe, reliable electricity.
"Davis-Besse is a critical part of our local and regional economy, which depends on the availability of reliable and affordable power for its success,” Ottawa County Improvement Corp. Director Jamie Beier said. "The plant has a longstanding history of providing the zero-emission, carbon-free electricity we depend on while also generating attractive jobs and significant economic benefits for the area. We thank Davis-Besse and (FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company) FENOC for their investments in Ottawa County."
FENOC, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., operates Davis-Besse. The plant produces 908 megawatts of electricity -- enough to power more than 750,000 homes -- every day. The plant has 820 full-time employees during normal operations, making it one of the largest employers in Ottawa County.
"Davis-Besse is honored to be part of the fabric of the Ottawa County community and pleased to make contributions that go beyond the electricity we produce," site Vice President Ray Lieb said. "We are committed to maintaining safe and reliable operations and remaining an important part of northwest Ohio's economy."
