Nuclear Matters Leadership Council member Carol Browner --
who served as EPA Administrator longer than anyone in history -- told nuclear industry representatives at a Clean Power Plan implementation conference in Atlanta last week that she now believes nuclear power has an essential role in reducing carbon emissions.
Browner said she had changed her mind on nuclear energy as she recognized the importance of cutting emissions produced by burning fossil fuels.
She said individual states will have the biggest impact on the nuclear energy industry, and hopes legislators will not eliminate its consideration when addressing future energy needs.
“The fact that the EPA solicited additional comments on the plan’s nuclear portion was likely a good sign,” she said.
Former EPA Administrator Browner says she now supports nuclear power
