NRC to host open house on Sequoyah plant's 2014 performance

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has scheduled an open house for April 7 to discuss the agency's assessment of the Sequoyah nuclear plant’s two units during 2014, the NRC said on Monday.

The open house and poster session will begin at 6 p.m. at the Sequoyah Training Center, 2440 Igou Ferry Road in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, which is near the plant.

During the open house, NRC staff members will be available to answer questions on the safety performance and regulatory oversight of the plan, as well as matters related to NRC inspections.

"NRC inspectors continually evaluate each nuclear plant’s safety, and each year, we take a detailed look at that information to identify any trends and help plan future inspections," NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree said. "Inspection results are available throughout the year, but these annual meetings allow us to talk to local residents and answer any questions they may have."

The NRC review of the Sequoyah plant for 2014 concluded that the plant operated in a manner that preserved public health and safety, and protected the environment.

The plant will continue to undergo inspections this year.

The plant, operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is located near Soddy-Daisy, about 16 miles northeast of Chattanooga.
