To ensure that the Omaha Public Power District maintains an efficient work force without manpower shortages, the utility's board of directors cleared the way last week for the company to add key temporary workers and management personnel when the need arises.
At a board meeting, the directors authorized management to negotiate multi-year contracts with potential staffing companies to supply supplemental labor for maintenance and modification services at generating stations.
Management said development projects on the horizon are complex, requiring a staff of knowledgeable planners and highly skilled, well-trained workers who can operate efficiently and safely in a power-plant environment.
Management will be able to review and evaluate all of the available options, recommending the method to get the most quality work completed at the lowest cost.
Other business at the board meeting included a report on the awarding of a $1.33 million contract to Boiler Tube Company of America, based in South Carolina, to supply material for a boiler-repair project at Nebraska City Station's Unit 1; the approval of the sale of surplus property north of Spring Creek Addition and the President’s State of the Utility Report.
