Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) officials in the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania said last week that Amar Patel has been named senior resident inspector at the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in Lacey Township, New Jersey.
Patel, who joined the agency back in 2002, has worked as Hope Creek’s resident inspector in Lower Alloways Creek Township,
New Jersey and as a reactor inspector in other Northeastern plants. In his new position, Patel will team with the Hope Creek’s other resident inspector to conduct vital inspections, manage collaborative projects and act as spokespeople for the plant. Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC Resident Inspectors due to the overall vast quantity of plant oversight operations.
“Amar Patel has the training, experience and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment, and ensuring Exelon continues to safely operate Oyster Creek,” NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said.
Patel holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s in engineering management from Drexel University in Philadelphia. In addition to his substantial education, Patel has completed the NRC’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program and an extensive NRC inspector qualification program.
