The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will hold an open house to discuss the annual assessment of safety at the St. Lucie nuclear plant.
The annual review of the NRC states that the St. Lucie nuclear plant runs efficiently and safely and is neither a danger to public health and safety nor the environment.
Under the operation of Florida Power & Light Co., the plant is based 10 miles southeast of Fort Pierce in Jensen Beach, Fla.
“NRC inspectors continually evaluate each nuclear plant’s safety, and each year we take a detailed look at that information to identify any trends and help plan future inspections,” Victor McCree, administration of NRC Region II Administrator, said. “Inspection results are available throughout the year, but these annual meetings allow us to talk to local residents and answer any questions they may have.”
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 6 p.m. Participants are welcome to join in Room Six of the Havert L. Fenn Center, located at 2000 Virginia Ave., in Fort Pierce, Fla.
Staff from the NRC will be at the meeting to answer questions.
Further information is available in a letter that the NRC Region II office sent to nuclear plant officials. It has been published on the NRC website.
