Entergy Louisiana, LLC, signed a five-year agreement this week to provide an additional 60 megawatts of electricity to power CF Industries’ expanding nitrogen facility in Donaldsonville, increasing its production capacity by over 40 percent.
The plant produces urea, urea-ammonium nitrate and anhydrous ammonia for agricultural and industrial customers. With the expansion, the plant will employ more than 450 people, making it a staple of southeast Louisiana’s growing local economy.
Along with Entergy Louisiana’s partnership with CF Industries, it took the collaboration of Louisiana Economic Development, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber and the Ascension Economic Development Corp. to help make CF Industries' plant expansion a reality.
“We are excited to be playing a role in this project. Partnering with CF Industries to craft the optimal solution to power the company’s expanded facility is just one example of the ways we are helping drive economic growth across Louisiana,” Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana, LLC, and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, LLC, said. “Working to create long-term opportunities for companies, as well as the communities where they operate, is part of our commitment to help build a prosperous future for our customers."
Attracted by low-cost natural gas, low electricity prices, existing infrastructure and Louisiana’s business-friendly climate, industries are investing billions of dollars to build new plants or expand existing facilities, creating jobs for the community.
CF Industries plans to complete its expansion by early 2016.
