The Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, part of Exelon Corporation, recently fixed an electrical problem and returned to full operations in its Unit 2 on Tuesday morning.
Maintenance technicians were first informed about the electrical problem on Feb. 18, 2015. The problem involved a valve that was accidentally activated. This active valve caused temporarily increased water levels in the reactors.
Technicians solved the problem by following regular procedures; they manually removed Unit 2 to fix the valve.
The Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, just 50 miles north of Syracuse and seven miles northeast of Oswego in New York, produces over 1,937 megawatts-worth of electricity that is carbon-free. This is enough electricity to supply 1 million average homes with power.
