Exelon senior VP will be loaned to NEI in May

Maria Korsnick, Exelon Generation’s senior vice president for Northeast operations and chief nuclear officer for Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG), is joining the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) as a loaned chief operating officer for 18 months, starting in May, NEI said Thursday.

Korsnick also is chairwoman of the industry’s Fukushima Response Steering Committee, which establishes U.S. reactor “lessons learned” policies from the 2011 Fukushima reactor crisis in Japan.

In addition, Korsnick has served as acting chief executive officer at CENG's three facilities: Calvert Cliffs in Maryland and Ginna and Nine Mile Point in New York, which generate enough electricity to power more than 3 million U.S. homes.

“Under Maria’s leadership, nuclear energy facilities at Constellation Energy Nuclear Group and Exelon have operated at exceptional levels of safety and performance,” Marvin Fertel, NEI's president and CEO, said. “Maria will provide that same organizational effectiveness, vision and leadership working with our staff and members at NEI.”

Daniel Lipman, NEI’s executive director for policy development and supplier programs, has been elected vice president of the new Supplier and International Programs Division, effective March 1.

The new organization will work to increase support for NEI member companies that are leaders in the global nuclear energy marketplace.

“With 69 nuclear reactors currently under construction around the world and 183 new nuclear plant projects in the licensing and advanced planning stage, commercial opportunities for U.S. vendors and suppliers are found increasingly in international markets, and Dan will lead industry efforts to capture a share of that market,” Fertel said.

Lipman has led key supplier issues at NEI since 2012.
