NuScale Power recently contracted with AREVA, Inc. for nuclear fuel design testing services involving its 50MWe small modular nuclear reactor (SMR).
As part of the contract, AREVA will adapt its HTP pressurized water reactor fuel design for use in the Design Certification Application of NuScale’s 50MWe SMR. AREVA also will perform inspections of fuel critical heat flux and component flow-induced vibration, and control rod assembly drop alignment testing and analysis.
“AREVA is a world leader in nuclear fuel design and fuel services,” Dale Atkinson, NuScale’s chief operating officer, said. “Their capabilities and experience supporting new plant design and testing, and servicing America’s operating nuclear energy fleet will provide significant expertise in fulfilling our design certification requirements.”
The multinational nuclear power company offers a wide scope of testing services imperative to successful nuclear licensing and validation as well as being the current leading contributor of innovative nuclear fuel design.
“With decades of experience in the American nuclear industry, AREVA remains committed to providing its expertise and services to customers like NuScale Power,” Craig Ranson, chief operating officer of AREVA, said. “This supports the advancement of nuclear energy in the U.S. energy mix as a reliable source of low-carbon electricity.”
