Maria Korsnick, Exelon Generation’s senior vice president for Northeast Operations and chief nuclear officer for Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG), is joining the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) as a loaned executive, NEI said Friday.
Korsnick will serve as NEI's chief operating officer for 18 months, starting in May.
“Under Maria’s leadership, nuclear energy facilities at Constellation Energy Nuclear Group and Exelon have operated at exceptional levels of safety and performance,” Marvin Fertel, NEI's president and CEO, said. “Maria will provide that same organizational effectiveness, vision and leadership working with our staff and members at NEI.”
Korsnick also is chairwoman of the industry’s Fukushima Response Steering Committee, which establishes U.S. reactor “lessons learned” policies from the 2011 Fukushima reactor crisis in Japan.
In addition, Korsnick has served as acting chief executive officer at CENG's three facilities: Calvert Cliffs in Maryland and Ginna and Nine Mile Point in New York, which generate enough electricity to power more than 3 million U.S. homes.
“I'm proud to be a part of the nuclear energy industry and the important benefits that it provides to consumers across the country,” Korsnick said. “Over the past several years, in addition to overseeing safe nuclear plant operations, I have worked with industry leaders on issues ranging from enhancing our already-fervent commitment to safety and reliability, to accreditation for industry-wide training programs.
