Horizon Nuclear Power in the United Kingdom recently named David Stearns as its new business development director.

“We’re delighted that David is joining Horizon at this key time in our development,” Horizon Chief Operating Officer Alan Raymant said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that further strengthens our team, and allows us to accelerate the implementation of our strategy and our flagship project at Wylfa Newydd.

Stearns has more than 20 years’ experience in power development financing, including most recently working for Portland Advisers where he was senior adviser for Energy and Nuclear Power.

The Wylfa Newydd development, in North Wales, will generate at least 2,700 megawatts of power. Work is scheduled to begin this year, and Stearns will be responsible for completing its development and financial close, as well as ensuring the successful progression of Horizon’s Oldbury project in South Gloucestershire.

Stearns’ work also will include negotiating commercial agreements. He will report directly to Raymant.

“This is a great move for me and a new challenge – having worked on nuclear and energy projects for many years now it’s fantastic to be joining a company at the forefront of delivering new nuclear in the UK,” Stearns said. “The team at Horizon is strong, and I’m excited about leading them in the successful delivery of Horizon’s strategy and the UK’s new nuclear program.”
