TALEN ENERGY: Elevates Brad Berryman to Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO)

Talen Energy issued the following announcement on Sept. 24.

Talen Energy today announced the promotion of Brad Berryman to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer. In this expanded role, Mr. Berryman will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Company’s Susquehanna nuclear power plant, a two-unit, 2,700 megawatt facility in Luzerne County, Penn. He will report to Talen Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Alexander.

“Brad is an experienced nuclear professional with proven leadership capabilities and a strong drive to deliver world-class performance,” said Alexander. “Since joining Talen in February 2017, he has been central to Susquehanna’s performance improvement in the areas of operations, finance and safety, leading the plant from third quartile to top decile performance and rankings. We are excited to have him take on this expanded role and look forward to continue driving our objectives for Susquehanna under his leadership.”

Mr. Berryman joined Talen in early 2017 from NextEra Energy Resources, and has since served as Site Vice President for Susquehanna Nuclear, with responsibilities for all plant operations and personnel. He will succeed Timothy Rausch, who has accepted an executive position at another organization.

Alexander added, “I join the entire team in thanking Tim for his nine years of service to the Company and wishing him all the best in his future endeavors. I am confident that Brad’s transition to his new role will be orderly and consistent with the Company’s succession plan. Brad will enjoy the benefit of the skilled leadership team he has built at Susquehanna during the last year-and-a-half, a strong relationship with Talen’s Nuclear Oversight Committee (NOC), and the support of our 925 highly-skilled and dedicated Susquehanna team members.”

With over two decades of extensive commercial nuclear experience, Mr. Berryman has held positions of increasing importance spanning various technical, operational, training and financial capacities. Prior to joining Talen, he served as general manager at Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station (NextEra Energy Resources), Homestead, Fla. He also held leadership roles at: Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation, Burlington, Kan.; Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (Arizona Public Service), Tonopah, Ariz; and Arkansas Nuclear One (Entergy), Russelville, Ark.

Mr. Berryman served his country in the United States Navy. In the community, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Berwick Area United Way and actively participates in a variety of company volunteer initiatives.
