Rosatom promotes services at Nuclear Africa 2016 Conference, expo

Rosatom representatives from JSC Rusatom Overseas Inc. made presentations on the company’s integrated nuclear plant services, nuclear education, construction of research reactors and establishment of nuclear technology centers recently at the Nuclear Africa 2016 Conference and Exhibition in Johannesburg, South Africa, which focused on the transformative potential of nuclear energy throughout the continent.

The Rosatom delegation was led by Rosatom International Business Department Director Nikolay Drozdov, who spoke about how the corporation supports nuclear power development through a set of services, including nuclear education, construction of research reactors and the establishment of nuclear technology centers. Rosatom also supports the nuclear power plant development process, from implementing construction plans to employee training and operational and management support.

The presentations fit into the general theme of the conference, which aimed to bolster the continent’s nuclear power industry. Kelvin Kemm, chairman of the South African Nuclear Energy Board of Directors and the conference’s chairman, spoke of the opportunities that nuclear power plant development could create for local producers and talked about the importance of finding foreign strategic partners.

Other notable attendees included World Nuclear Association Chairman Helmut Engelbrecht, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov, South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) CEO Phumzile Tshelane and Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa Managing Director Knox Msebenzi.
