Don Beatty has been named FirstEnergy Corp.’s new external affairs manager for Allegany and Garrett Counties in Maryland for the company’s Potomac Edison utility subsidiary, the company said on Tuesday.

Potomac Edison serves approximately 250,000 customers in seven counties within Maryland and in certain areas of West Virginia. In this position, Beatty will serve as a liaison between the company and elected officials of the counties and will coordinate and foster community relations, as well as handle potential problems that might occur. Beatty will relocate to the Oakland, Maryland, service center from Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Beatty joined the Potomac Edison in 1979 and most recently served as the company’s manager of customer support.

The company said Beatty will replace John Emerick, who has retired. Beatty began working for the company in 1979 and most recently held the customer-support management position.

Beatty earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Youngstown State University and is a licensed engineer in Ohio.
