Bloomberg BNA and Nuclear Matters are holding a “Nuclear Energy, Texas and the EPA Clean Power Plan” discussion Thursday, Dec. 3, in Austin.

“The EPA Clean Power Plan tasks Texas with reducing CO2 emissions in a manner that may financially burden the state’s power sector and raise electricity rates,” Chris Gadomski, head of research-nuclear, at Bloomberg New Energy Finance and the discussion’s moderator, said. “Anticipated fossil fuel plant closures may impact system reliability. As an emissions-free power source, nuclear can play a role in balancing reliability and compliance.”

The panel discussion will focus on issues the energy industry faces in the state and will include topics relating to the Clean Power Plan (CPP), the recent history of nuclear generation in the state, how nuclear energy could help the state meet CPP requirements and the state’s rights in overseeing its electricity market.

Confirmed speakers include Robert Bryce, an author who writes on energy and political issues; CPS Energy Group Executive Vice President Cris Eugster; University of Texas at Austin law Professor John Hays, Jr.; Nuclear Matters Co-Chair Evan Bayh; and Austin Energy General Manager Larry Weis.

Registration for the event can be done at the Bloomberg BNA website, http://about.bna.com/nuclear-going-forward-austin.
