Cogent Reports awarded the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) its Environmental Champion for the Midwest Region award.

In addition to receiving this honor in 2014, OPPD was also this year’s second-place awardee because they are recognized by customers as being environmentally conscious and in support of environmental health.

The utility’s environmental successes include their Power Forward solutions, a collection of management programs that are designed to reduce the demand of electricity at peak times, and programs supporting tree growth and energy education programs.

In 2014, OPPD released their Future Power-Generation Plan that looks to retire older generating units and install energy efficiency measures. The utility also plans to reduce its use of coal generation and increase its renewable and natural gas usage up to 32 and 29 percent, respectively, by 2033.

For the award’s process, Cogent Reports evaluated 125 utilities across the country and selected only 36 utilities. The company released their selection results in its comprehensive Utility and Trusted Brand & Customer Engagement study that evaluates operational satisfaction, product engagement and overall brand trust.
