Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued the following announcement on April 25.

NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Hatch Nuclear Power Plant.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Clinton Jones as the senior resident inspector at the Hatch nuclear power plant near Baxley, Ga., about 20 miles south of Vidalia.

The two-unit plant is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. Jones joined the NRC in 2012 as a project engineer in the Resident Inspector Development Program in the Region II office in Atlanta.

Before joining the agency, Jones was attached to the Department of the Navy as a senior shift-refueling engineer based out of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. As a civilian engineer for the Navy, he refueled Ohio class ballistic missile submarines, and defueled and deactivated Los Angeles class submarines. He also served as the lead reactor vessel head maintenance engineer for Improved Los Angeles class submarines and Nimitz class aircraft carriers in the Atlantic fleet.

Jones received a Bachelor of Science degree in ocean engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va. At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each operating U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at a reactor site for up to seven years. The Hatch resident inspectors can be reached at 912-367-9881.
