Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued the following announcement on May 1.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has selected Justin Vazquez as the new resident inspector at Indian Point Station in Buchanan, N.Y. The two-unit site is operated by Entergy Nuclear.

Vazquez joins Senior Resident Inspector Brian Haagensen and Resident Inspector Andrew Siwy at Indian Point. Vazquez began working for the agency in 2013 as part of the NRC’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program.

He then was an engineer in the Materials Safety Licensing Branch in the Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards at NRC headquarters. Most recently, he was a project engineer in the Region I Division of Reactor Projects.

Vazquez holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and psychology from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day plant operations.

They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public
