In an effort to give added support to its supplier membership, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) has unveiled a program that focuses on expanded engagement with the Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM) — an organization that leads a large-scale program to remedy its “legacy sites” of locations where nuclear energy was used during the
World War II and Cold War eras.
“Supporting cleanup activities at DOE’s Environmental Management program is a critical objective for a large cross-section of NEI’s supplier membership,” NEI Vice President for Supplier and International Programs Daniel Lipman said. “As we work to ensure the vitality and competitiveness of the U.S. nuclear supply chain, DOE-EM program support is a key part of this equation.”
Another facet of the new program was NEI’s, the Energy Facility Contractor’s Group’s and the Energy Technlogy and Environmental Business Association’s co-sponsorship on April 15 of the first in a series of Nuclear Cleanup Caucus gatherings. Chaired by Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), the inaugural event took place on Capitol Hill and was attended by approximately 100 people.
The next caucus is slated for June 3.
