The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) unveiled the 2016 leadership of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safety (ACRS) late last week.

Dennis Bley, president of Buttonwood Consulting Inc. in Oakton, Virgina, has been named ACRS chairman; Michael Corradini, professor and chairman of the Department of Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, was elected vice chairman; and  nuclear-industry veteran Peter Riccardella was named member-at-large.

Bley has previously served with Department of Energy and NRC technical review panels and as a lecturer for industry, academic and government courses. Bley is currently registered as a nuclear engineer in California. In research, Bley’s focus has been in reliability and risk analysis, and how human interaction with reactors effects that.

Corradini’s research areas include many aspects of nuclear science, policy, nuclear waste disposal, nuclear reactor safety and other areas.

Riccardella has worked within the nuclear industry for approximately 45 years, focusing on nuclear-power components and ensuring their integrity, and previously served as a principal investigator for the Electric Power Research Institute.

Information on other new members can be found at www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/regulatory/advisory/acrs/membership.html#Corradini.
