The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said Tuesday it will meet with Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group (B&W) on April 16 to discuss safety performance review and other matters.

NRC and B&W officials and management will be at the meeting in Lynchburg, Virginia, which is open to the public and the media. NRC officials will address any questions following the meeting.

“The NRC inspects B&W and other nuclear fuel facilities on an ongoing basis to monitor their performance,” NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree said. “Our inspection reports are publicly available and we also hold regular meetings like this one near each facility to discuss our oversight and answer local residents’ questions.”

Between Jan. 1, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2014, a performance review was conducted in areas of safety, facility support and radiological controls at the B&W nuclear fuel fabrication plant. No concerning phenomenon was reported and the plant was deemed to be operating as it should; no program areas were in need of improvement, the NRC said.

The meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. in the second floor conference room of Lynchburg City Hall located at 900 Church St
