Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff will be in Hartsville, South Carolina, to hold an open house on its 2015 performance assessment of the nearby Robinson nuclear plant, which achieved the NRC’s best safety ratings throughout 2015.

The event will be held 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsville Public Library, 147 W. College Ave. The plant’s resident inspectors and other staff also will be present to answer questions.

The NRC’s inspection findings and performance indicators are rated using a color-coded scale, ranging from green, which indicates the lowest safety significance, to white, yellow and red. Throughout 2015, Robinson’s findings were all rated green, meaning the plant, operated by Duke Energy, is currently subject to the standard level of oversight, which still includes detailed baseline inspections.

“We invite the public to visit with us and find out how we’re doing to ensure Robinson and other nuclear plants are operated safely,” NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney said. “These annual meetings offer an opportunity for everyone, and especially people who live near the plant, to learn about our inspection and oversight programs.”
