The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will hold an open house 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday on the performance review of the Unit 3 reactor at Entergy’s Waterford nuclear plant in Killona, Louisiana.

The event will be held at the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center in Hahnville, Louisiana.

The power plant received safe inspection and performance assessments throughout 2015, meaning it will continue to operate under the standard level of NRC oversight; this includes thousands of hours of inspections. NRC staff in 2015 logged approximately 6,000 hours of inspection and review time at the plant.

“By assessing each plant’s performance in a comprehensive manner, we are able to focus our inspection resources on those areas most in need of attention,” NRC Region IV Administrator Marc Dapas said. “Because Waterford 3 did not have any safety or security issues above very low significance in 2015, we are not planning any inspections above and beyond our normal baseline level of oversight.”

NRC staff, including Waterford’s resident inspectors, will be on hand at the open house to answer any questions from the public. No formal presentations will be made, so attendees can arrive at any time during the two-hour event.
