The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced that an open house will be held April 22, which will allow the public access to the assessments of two units at the Hatch nuclear plant.

According to the NRC assessment, the two units were considered to be running in a safe and efficient manner. The Georgia facility will continue to be the subject of future inspections that are required for all power plants using nuclear energy.

“NRC inspectors continually evaluate each nuclear plant’s safety, and each year we take a detailed look at that information to identify any trends and help plan future inspections,” NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree said. “Inspection results are available throughout the year, but these annual meetings allow us to talk to local residents and answer any questions they may have.”

Earlier in March, the NRC sent a letter informing the owner of the two operating plants’ performance and that no additional measures were needed at the time of the assessment. During the assessment period, NRC officials evaluate safety procedures and worker performance.

This meeting will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. local time at the Appling County Courthouse in Baxley, Georgia. The meeting is open to the public.
