NRC to hold hearing on Georgia, S.C. nuclear plant projects

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is scheduled to meet on Tuesday at a public hearing with two power utilities that have nuclear plants under construction.

During the hearing, the NRC will learn more about the work underway at Southern Company’s two Westinghouse AP1000 units under construction in Vogtle, Georgia, about 26 miles southeast of Augusta.

The NRC also will get a status report on the two AP1000 units being built by SCANA near Jenkinsville, South Carolina, about 26 miles northwest of Columbia.

The meeting with the companies is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Vogtle Plant Support Center in Classroom 6, located at 9034 River Road in Waynesboro.
