The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued its Performance and Accountability Report for fiscal 2015 on Tuesday.

The report said the NRC was successful in improving its operations through skilled workforce investments. In conducting the review, the NRC evaluated the licensing, rulemaking, oversight and research activity taken on and what the agency was able to accomplish. It also detailed the NRC’s efforts in waste safety and nuclear-materials management oversight.

“This report shows the NRC staff’s steadfast commitment to meeting the agency’s safety and security goals,” NRC Chairman Stephen Burns said. “At the same time, we continue to do all we can to manage our resources efficiently and effectively.”

The report also said the agency showed no material weaknesses or deficiencies in its financial statements, which were evaluated by an independent auditor. The NRC said this is the 12th year in a row that this was the case. The NRC said the audit also found that the NRC was operating in compliance with federal spending laws.

The report covers activity through Sept. 30, the end of fiscal 2015. In the report, the NRC details what challenges are expected in the future, including compliance with changing international treaties and economic market pressures for plants operating in the U.S.
