The U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has selected Justin Heinly to serve as the new senior resident inspector at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in Delta, Pennsylvania, the NRC said late last week.
Prior to this appointment, Heinly served as a resident inspector at Three Mile Island in Middletown, Pennsylvania. Heinly joined the NRC in 2007 and completed the agency’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program.
“Justin Heinly’s training and commitment to safety will help the NRC in its mission of protecting people and the environment by helping assure that Peach Bottom continues to meet the high standards set by the agency,” NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said.
All plants that are in commercial operation within the U.S. are required to have a minimum of two resident inspectors assigned by the NRC. These individuals carry out inspection and monitoring activities at their assigned plants and act as liaisons between the NRC, the plant and the surrounding communities. Heinly joins Resident Inspector Brian Smith at the Peach Bottom plant.
Heinly holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and previously served as a reactor engineer with the NRC.
Peach Bottom is partially owned by Exelon Corp. and houses two active nuclear reactors.
