Northeastern U.S. nuclear plant contracts with maintenance firm CB&I

Energy-industry infrastructure solutions company Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. (CB&I) said recently that it has been contracted to provide modification and maintenance services for  an unnamed nuclear plant in the Northeastern U.S.

“We are pleased to provide maintenance and modification services for this nuclear generating station,” Chip Ray, president of CB&I’s Capital Services operating group, said. “CB&I is committed to delivering the highest levels of safety, performance and operational excellence.”

CB&I said the contract is valued at approximately $200 million, and that it will be carrying out various services at the nuclear plant. The company has experience managing plant outages, providing technical assistance, and handling quality control, waste management and other services.

The corporate website said CB&I has contracts with approximately 40 percent of nuclear reactors operating in the U.S. and has managed approximately 60 uprate projects. The company also said it has been able to facilitate a capacity increase of approximately 3,600 megawatts to the nation’s power-grid system.

CB&I said it currently provides maintenance and modification services to 45 nuclear reactors.

CB&I focuses on infrastructure-related engineering services, in the energy sector and elsewhere. The company employs approximately 54,000 people globally.
