The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) last week named Elizabeth Andrews the resident inspector at the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in Lacey Township, New Jersey.
Andrews, who joined the Region I office in July 2012, will work with Amar Patel, the plant’s senior resident inspector.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors due to the overall vast quantity of plant overseeing operations. Resident inspectors conduct vital inspections, manage collaborative projects and act as spokespeople for the plant.
Andrews previously served as acting resident inspector at the Beaver Valley nuclear plant and, most recently, was a project engineer in the Region I Division of Reactor Projects.
“Liz Andrews’ training and technical expertise will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission to protect people and the environment by ensuring the safe operation of Oyster Creek,” NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said.
Andrews holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Villanova University. In addition, she has completed the NRC’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program and an extensive NRC inspector qualification program.
