The National Nuclear Security Administration’s Nevada National Security Site has been recognized for having one of the cleanest, most fuel-efficient vehicle fleets in the nation.
Jim McConnell, the NNSA’s assistant administrator for safety, infrastructure and operations, made the announcement Friday.
Rated fourth by the 2015 100 Best Fleets, the Green Fleet Awards were organized by the National Security Technologies’ Fleet, Fuel and Equipment Service operation, which tracks and rates the performance of vehicle fleets throughout the continent.
To be recognized for having a top fleet, McConnell said a company must demonstrate vision, outstanding operations, and strategic planning toward the future environmental role that other public fleets can emulate; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and have a fleet demonstrating a commitment to alternative fuel vehicles such as hybrid vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles and alternative-fuel vehicles.
Candidates must also demonstrate fleet use goals that validate a strong commitment to a green approach.
Established by Congress in 2000, NNSA is a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy responsible for enhancing national security through the military application of nuclear science.
