NB Power said on Monday that it is holding full-scale emergency-response exercises this week in cooperation with New Brunswick’s (Canada) Emergency Measures Organizations (NBEMO).

The exercises will focus on emergency-response activity and testing the response plans of the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station as part of Community Preparedness Week.
NB Power also will test emergency-response plans tied to grid stability and reliability in a North America-wide exercise.

“We always encourage our customers to be prepared for extreme events, and it is just as important for the utility to test emergency plans and procedures regularly,” Gaëtan Thomas, NB Power’s president and CEO, said. “These exercises will demonstrate that New Brunswickers can be confident in the collective emergency-response capabilities of NB Power and the Province of New Brunswick.”

Residents in the area are encouraged to discuss personal and family emergency plans among family members during this time and to ensure that all supplies and equipment are viable and operational.

“All New Brunswickers are reminded to exercise emergency plans and ensure they are prepared for whatever scenario comes their way,” New Brunswick Minister of Public Safety Stephen Horsman said. “Our residents can also be confident that government is working closely with NB Power and other agencies to ensure the needs of New Brunswickers are met in a coordinated and predictable way following an extreme event.”
