Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) said late last week that it has completed service-reliability upgrades affecting the nearly 50,000 customers in its service region.

So far during the $6 million upgrade program, the company has upgraded 73 of 90 circuits and plans to finish the final 17 by year’s end.

“These circuit upgrades allow us to use advanced technology to enhance our electric system,” Tony Hurley, vice president of operations for JCP&L, said. “The work provides additional resiliency and is designed to help limit the frequency and duration of service disruptions to our customers.”

Improvements include replacing fuses and spacing devices near East Windsor Township in Mercer County, New Jersey; new transformers, poles and upgraded circuit components at several localities in Monmouth County; and other projects in Burlington, Hunterdon, Warren and Morris Counties.

This project is part of the company’s plan to maintain electrical stability and meet anticipated growth in the future.

JCP&L is a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., serving approximately 1.1 million electricity customers in the state.
