Mississippi Power said on Thursday that it has been recognized by Site Selection and Southern Business and Development magazines as a top utility in the areas of economic development and public admiration, respectively.

Southern Business named Mississippi Power on the magazine’s list of the state’s most-admired companies for service. This designation will be included in the magazine’s first listing of “Best of Economic Development in Mississippi” awardees.

The company also was named as an honorable mention by Site Selection on its list of “Top Utilities in North America for Economic Development.”

Mississippi Power established its Economic Development Services group in 2014 and has been working to implement programs that support industrial and commercial business activity in the area.

“We are honored to be recognized by these two publications for our efforts to create jobs in the communities we proudly serve,” Mississippi Power Economic Development Director Brian Useforge said. “Mississippi is a wonderful destination for national and international businesses, and we work every day with local and state partners to make sure interested companies know that.”

Mississippi Power is a subsidiary of Southern Company and serves approximately 186,000 customers throughout the southeastern region of the state. The company has received recognition in the areas of post-storm restoration services and recovery efforts.
