The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) officials will meet with Tennessee Valley Authority representatives on Tuesday in Rockville, Maryland, to discuss the TVA’s Early Site Permit (ESP) application for its Clinch River plant.

The meeting will be held 8:30-10:30 a.m. in room O4B6 of the NRC’s One White Flint building, 11555 Rockville Pike. The talks will center on the TVA’s proposed emergency procedures and environmental and safety details in its plans for small modular reactors at the site, approximately 15 miles west of Knoxville, Tennessee.

The TVA could request exemptions to the NRC’s emergency-preparedness regulations. If approved, they would allow TVA to use a planning zone smaller than currently considered for nuclear power plants. If the NRC issues an ESP, TVA still would have to apply for a separate license to build and operate reactors at the site.

The meeting will include a teleconference line. Those planning to call in should contact Joseph Williams at 301-415-1470 or at [email protected] to ensure adequate phone lines are available.
