Fortum Corp. announced on Friday that an annual refueling and maintenance outage will take place at the Loviisa Power Plant.

Outage procedure will begin on the first unit on Sunday and the second one will undergo the same following that. The corporation states that this process is expected to take place within six weeks.

“During this summer’s annual outage we begin the modernization of the power plant’s turbine reheaters,” plant manager of the Maintenance Unit, Pertti Salonen said. “Four out of the eight reheaters will be installed during this year’s outage. The next four will be replaced during the annual outage in 2017.”

Both units will receive new reheating components. Fortum also reports that Unit 2 at the plant will receive a measurement of turbine steam line activity and a diesel generator will be replaced with a different kind of motor.  One fourth of the fuel will be replaced at the facility.

Approximately 750 external contractors will be employed during the annual outage process with a majority of them being Finnish citizens alongside German, Russian and Polish workers.

Fortum is an energy company that specializes in carbon-free electricity and largely serves Nordic and Baltic countries and has service available in Poland and parts of Russia.
