Jacobs Engineering Group said late last week that it was selected as one of several contractors to provide decommissioning and remediation services at the Sellafield Ltd. site in Cumbria, England.

The company will work on Lot 1 in a joint venture with Westinghouse Electric Co., James Fisher Nuclear Ltd., Shepley Engineers Ltd., REACT Engineering Ltd. and WYG on Lot 1.

Sellafield Ltd. specializes in the decommissioning and processing of nuclear fuel and houses a reactor that is currently undergoing decommissioning and dismantling.

“The joint venture is responsible for a step change in the planning and delivery of nuclear decommissioning in some potentially high-hazard environments,” Jacobs Senior Vice President Mark Bello said. “Jacobs’ deep knowledge of the Sellafield site stretches back more than 40 years, and we look forward to leveraging our integrated field services capability with the best from the supply chain to deliver innovation and best value.”

Work associated with this project includes nuclear decommissioning, asset care, demolition, post-operation close-out support, waste streaming and new-build services to support decommissioning activities.

The agreement is set up with an initial period of five years of work, with the possibility of a five-year extension.
