The Steering Committee of the International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO) discussed the progress of their action plan and future proposals at a meeting that took place between June 9 and 11.

On progress for the established plan for 2014 and 2015, the general consensus was that in all areas it has been consistent with their expectations. The action plan has four task areas: policy and dialogue, innovation, global scenario development and sustainability assessment and strategy. The INPRO is a project of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

They also reported that collaborative projects including the Synergistic Nuclear Energy Regional Group Interactions Evaluated for Sustainability (SYNERGIES) project have made significant progress with the tasked placed under the innovations and global scenarios categories.

“We welcome your input concerning progress on current work, and your statements concerning national contributions to joint INPRO activities, suggestions for priorities, and also proposals on how the available resources can be put to good use to meet INPRO’s objectives,” IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy Mikhail Chudakov said.

The group also discussed future activity and possible proposals for inclusion into the INPRO Action Plan for 2016 and 2017.

Two manuals were released under the sustainability portion of the plan in line with assessments with limited scope from Russia, China and India, along with their recommendations relating to sodium fast reactor designs.
