The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Network of Emerging Nuclear Specialists (INENS) are attempting to reach out to young nuclear scientists and professionals, the groups announced Wednesday.
Both organizations hope to raise awareness of career opportunities with the IAEA and related organizations.
The two agencies will also cooperate to support networking and professional development capabilities and to facilitate connections between emerging professionals and long-standing experts in the field.
Through this program young employees of the IAEA will be featured to highlight existing opportunities.
“As the current generation of nuclear experts retire from the field, it will be vital to interest, engage and retain the next generation in nuclear especially women and young experts from developing countries,” INENS Executive Director Meena Singelee said.
Specific programs that will be implemented through this agreement include internship and fellowship opportunities that offer work experience and training opportunities to those in school and those who have recently graduated. They also plan to introduce the Youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program with the Vienna International School in order to highlight nuclear science opportunities.
“This is going to enhance the IAEA’s visibility and reputation among many young professionals who had not previously considered advancing their careers here,” Janice Dunn-Lee, IAEA deputy director general and head of the Department of Management, said..
