The City Council on the Welsh Isle of Anglesey was pleased with the news of the incorporation of Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe Ltd. this week, which was seen as a step closer to getting the proposed Wylfa Newydd nuclear plant project off the ground.

Hitachi also reportedly has made progress with Bechtel Management Company Ltd. and JGC Corp., potential joint-venture partners in the Wylfa project, through a memorandum of understanding.

Through this joint venture, the companies would develop the plant, which would be located in the northern region of Wales. Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe would lead the project, the Isle of Anglesey City Council said.

“Hitachi Ltd’s announcement today of further progress toward establishing the Wylfa Newydd delivery team marks a major milestone, and one which we at the County Council warmly welcome,” Dylan Williams, head of Economic Development and Community Regeneration, said. “The announcement also illustrates the scale and complexity of the proposed development from a commercial, construction and engineering perspective. Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe Ltd. is a newly incorporated company and will lead the proposed Tier-1 joint venture with potential partners, world-leading companies Bechtel Management Company Ltd. and JGC Corporation.”
