Georgia Power donated $500,000 to new educational programming from Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), Georgia Power said on Thursday.

The Georgia Power Foundation is sponsoring the interactive, in-classroom video series “Chemistry Matters” and “Physics Fundamentals.” The courses will be made available to educators for free.

“Education is at the core of GPB’s mission,” Teya Ryan, president and CEO of GPB, said. “Georgia Power’s support means that we can continue to enhance learning experiences for teachers and students across the state with innovative resources, including these two very exciting new series.”

The company said it has supported education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as the state’s public education system, for over a century. The Georgia Power Foundation supports the company’s charitable donations to organizations and programs to support Georgia communities. The announcement said the chemistry course will be made available for the 2016-2017 school year, and the physics course will be available for the 2017-2018 school year.

“GPB fulfills a critical need in our state, bringing high-quality educational programs to millions of students through programming in the classroom and the home,” Paul Bowers, chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power, said. “Working with GPB to introduce these new interactive teaching tools further demonstrates our commitment to strengthening education in Georgia and enhancing the student experience in the STEM curriculum.”
