French energy company EDF unveiled its projects this week to develop low-carbon sources of energy in India.

The company said it is involved in the development of renewable energy, nuclear power and sustainable cities through agreements with groups and companies in the Asian country.

“With CAP 2030, EDF’s strategic plan, the group speeds up its development in low-carbon energies,” EDF CEO Jean-Bernard Lévy said. “The successes with our Indian partners in the key sectors of nuclear and wind energy are testimony to this commitment. I am also delighted with the prospect of EDF being able to establish a sustainable partnership with India, a country boasting exceptional economic vibrancy and dynamism, and one that, with its ambitious targets for tackling climate change, is clearly committed to the energy transition.”

In the nuclear energy development area, the company said it has reached a memorandum of understanding with the Nuclear Power Corp. of India Ltd. to facilitate the development of the Jaitapur project, with six European pressurized reactors proposed for the site in Jaitapur, India.

In the sustainable-cities sector, the company has reached an agreement with Engineering Projects India to aid Indian cities participating in the nation’s “100 Smart Cities in India” program.

In the renewable-energy realm, EDF has entered into a partnership to develop onshore wind-generation facilities through the acquisition of a 50 percent share in SITAC Wind Management and Development Private Ltd.
