The U.K.’s EDF Energy said this week that it has been awarded a two-year electricity contract to provide service for the Energy Consortium’s (TEC) portfolio, which includes museum and university facilities in England and Wales.

EDF Energy will provide 1.6TWh of electricity to as many as 4,500 sites starting in October.

“This is a fantastic win for EDF Energy that further cements our position as the U.K.’s largest supplier of electricity to the public sector,” Béatrice Bigois, managing director of customers at EDF Energy, said. “We’re delighted that TEC has chosen us, based on the great value and service we can offer their members.”

The contract came out of a tender run by TEC, a leading U.K. proponent of collaborative public-sector energy service.

“This has been a very thorough procurement process, and the quality of all the supplier submissions was a testament to the time and effort spent by the TEC team in preparing a framework to deliver the best energy-supply solutions to our members,” Richard Murphy, TEC’s managing director, said. “The very fact that EDF Energy was successful following the evaluation of their bid by TEC staff and members, and against stiff competition, means we can be confident that our members can expect the very best of service from a supplier with a strong track record of delivering to the public sector.”
