Duke Energy International President Andrea Bertone was among CEOs and other organizational leaders to be recognized for their commitment to employee safety by the National Safety Council (NSC) this week.

The NSC’s “CEOs Who ‘Get it’ ” designation recognizes corporate leaders who have been dedicated to ensuring that employees remain safe while working. The designation criteria consist of evaluations of safety-management solutions within the company, risk-education practices, leadership, and management and overall performance.

“These CEOs understand that safety must start at the top,” NSC President and CEO Deborah Hersman said. “They have set a safety standard for both their peers and employees, and we are proud to recognize their efforts to make our world safer.”

Duke Energy International manages operations and investments of the company in Central and South America and in Saudi Arabia, and it currently operates generation facilities in Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, Chile and Peru.

Testimony from an employee of Duke Energy International given to Safety + Health magazine said Bertone spends time working alongside plant operators and allows herself to understand what risks are present in generation plants and keeps up with new safety procedures within the company.
