Southern Company announced on Tuesday that Daniel Tucker has been selected to serve as the company’s treasurer.

Tucker currently serves as the senior vice president of finance and has been with the company since 1998. He started working with the company as an accountant in financial reporting and began serving the Southern Company Service’s finance organization since 2000.

“[Tucker’s] financial knowledge and leadership have been a tremendous asset to Southern Company for many years,” CFO Art Beattie said. “As the company takes major steps to create America’s energy future, he understands how to balance the many important variables necessary to deliver value to customers and investors.”

In this new role, Tucker will take on responsibilities associated with the treasury, enterprise risk management, trust finance and insurance-related functions. He will also continue in his current role with the company.

His work has been focused on financial planning and investor relations. Tucker earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance from Kennesaw State University.

Southern Company and its subsidiary bodies serve as electricity generation and distribution to the southeastern region of the U.S. The company states that their generating fleet can generate up to 46,000 megawatts in capacity; they serve approximately 4.5 million customers.
