Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant’s Unit 2 was restored to full power on Sunday after a planned refueling outage began on Feb. 16.
Technicians replaced nearly a third of the Maryland reactor’s fuel and performed thousands of inspections and preventive-maintenance tasks to keep the unit running safely and effectively for another two years.
The current work force was joined by an additional 1,500 workers to help support the outage. Several of the additional workers traveled to Maryland, providing a boost to the local economy.
Calvert Cliffs is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County. It is Maryland’s only nuclear energy facility.
The station houses two pressurized water reactors capable of generating 1,768 megawatts combined.
