The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced Monday that Julie Boettcher has been selected to serve as a resident inspector.

Boettcher, who has served with the NRC since 2013, began her career as a reactor engineer. Prior to joining the NRC, she served in the Navy as a nuclear surface warfare officer. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and a master’s degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University. 

“Julie Boettcher is an excellent inspector with a firm commitment to safety,” NRC Region III Administrator Cynthia Pederson said. She will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by ensuring the Palisades plant operates at the high standards set by the NRC.”

Boettcher will serve as a resident inspector at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert, Michigan. As a resident inspector, Boettcher will take on inspection activity and be tasked with the monitoring of daily operations at the plant. Resident inspectors also serve as liaisons between their facility, the NRC and the public.

The NRC requires that a minimum of two resident inspectors be assigned to all commercial nuclear power plants in the U.S. Boettcher joins Senior Resident Inspector April Nguyen.
