AREVA NP announced Thursday that it has been awarded a contract that would supply filtered containment venting systems (FCVS) to Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corp. (KHNP).

The FCVS units would be supplied to Units 2, 3 and 4 at the Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Gyeongju, South Korea.

“This new contract confirms AREVA NP’s position as a world leader for this technology and demonstrates the confidence of our utility customers,” Michael Cerruti, sales executive vice president of AREVA’s Reactors & Services Business Group, said.

AREVA’s FCVS technology features design aspects aimed at maintaining the integrity of reactor containment facilities and to better contain radioactive materials in the case of an accident. Unit 1 at the plant has the system installed and the FCVS has been implemented across approximately 70 nuclear facilities across 12 countries.

The company states that the device is compliant with multiple safety authorities representing countries globally with several different reactor types.

The Wolsong NPP comprises four Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) reactors and it has an approximate generation capacity of 2,710 megawatts of electricity.
