AREVA will supply the Trillo Nuclear Power Plant in Spain with fuel assemblies between 2017 and 2022 under a new contract that recently was approved.

The French company was selected by the Centrales Nucleares Almaraz-Trillo (CNAT).  AREVA will carry out six refuelings at the plant.

The facility is northeast of Madrid and has a generating capacity of approximately 1,066 megawatts of electricity.

“With this contract, we continue our long-term cooperation with CNAT, which began with the construction of the nuclear power plant in the 1980s,” Olivier Wantz, senior executive vice president of AREVA’s Mining & Front End Business Group, said. “As of today, we cooperate not only in fuel supply, but also in services and maintenance, as well as modernization projects, for the Trillo plant.

Fuel that will be utilized by the Trillo facility will be manufactured in the company’s plant in Lingen, Germany. This plant has built all fuel assemblies that the facility has used since it began operations in 1988.

AREVA specializes in multiple areas of the nuclear industry and has a presence in the entire fuel cycle, which includes uranium mining, reactor design, and the manufacture of  reactor components and fuel assemblies. It also offers site management and decommission service.
